MRS. L. MITCHELL CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. Lionel Mitchell, who has been ill for many months, passed away yesterday morning in a local hospital, and thus was relieved of the suffering borne with patience and fortitude. During her illness she had the devotion of her daughter and son- in law, Mr. and Mrs. George Cardiff, and the husband. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Oregon, and as a child came to California. and was especially prominent in Chico and Sacramento, where she resided before coming to Santa Cruz. She was a woman of the highest ideals and nobility of character. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Violet, wife of George Cardiff of Woods St. and Iris, wife of Rex Rice of Douglas, Ariz. Mrs. Rice is expected today. A sister, Mrs. S. E. Clayton of Oakland, as well as several brothers and sisters in the east, are additional surviving relatives. Mrs. J. B. Orr of Oakland, formerly of Santa Cruz, is a niece.
Rev. J. B. Orr, former pastor of the Congregational church here, will be in charge of the services. The funeral, which is to be strictly private, will be held at the Wessendorf mortuary Saturday morning, to be followed by cremation. Flowers are to be omitted.
